Punjabi singer Sidhu Moosewala shot dead at Mansa

On Sunday, Punjabi singer Sidhu Moosewala was shot dead in Jahawarke village, Mansa district. Two additional people were hurt in the shooting.

The Punjab government only yesterday reduced Moosewala’s protection. Moosewala was guarded by four police gunmen, two of whom were removed.

The police assume gangsters played a role in the Mossewala incident. Recently, gangsters based in Canada demanded ransom from a number of musicians and Punjabi actors.

Shubhdeep Singh Sidhu Moose Wala, or Sidhu Moosewala, ran in the 2022 Punjab Assembly election on a Congress ticket from Mansa, but lost to AAP’s Dr Vijay Singla. Dr Singla was recently fired from the Punjab Cabinet on corruption charges.

Who exactly is Sidhu Moose Wala?

Shubhdeep Singh Sidhu, alias Sidhu Moose Wala, was born on June 17, 1993 in the Mansa district village of Moose Wala. Moose Wala had a massive fan base and was well-known for his rap.

Moose Wala studied electrical engineering. He had studied music in college and had afterwards relocated to Canada.

Sidhu Moose Wala was also one of the most divisive Punjabi musicians, openly supporting gun culture and praising gangsters in incendiary songs. His song ‘Jatti Jeonay Morh Di Bandook Wargi,’ which was released in September 2019, sparked outrage due to an allusion to the 18th century Sikh fighter Mai Bhago. He was accused of casting a negative light on this Sikh warrior. Later, Moose Wala apologized.
