You may be a master hula hooper, but did you know you can join the latest social media fitness craze?

A hula hooping subreddit has 16,000 members, and YouTube videos get hundreds of thousands, if not millions, of views.

The American Council on Exercise found that hula hooping burns 210 calories in 30 minutes, equivalent to boot camp-style programmes, step aerobics, and cardio kickboxing.

Here are a few YouTube routines to get you started with hooping in your aerobic training.

Hula Hoop Warm-Up/Cool-Down: Add hooping to the beginning and end of your current workout with this warmup routine. The hoop is used to help stretch, but you don't actually hoop.

PINC AF Rachael Attard's Hoop Workout: This 15-minute beginner's exercise includes hoop-assisted stretches and continuous hooping in multiple stances.

Hula Hoop Dance Workout is a 30-minute workout for intermediate and advanced hula-hoopers that works the whole body.

Put on your workout clothes and choose one of the many hula hooping playlists on Spotify, and you're ready to go.

It is now a bigger trend on the social media platform, which shows that the toy from the 1950s is making a comeback and is being used for fitness more and more.
