Prunes decrease hip bone loss and reduce fracture risk.

A new study from Pennsylvania State University demonstrated that daily prune eating retained hip BMD and reduced fracture risk in postmenopausal women.

The study is the first to show that prune eating improves hip BMD, pointing to prunes as a food-based treatment alternative for bone health.

Women over 50 are more prone to have hip fractures, which often result in hospitalisation, poor quality of life, loss of independence, and shorter life span.

“A handful of prunes may simply be introduced to anyone's lifestyle,” says Andrea N. Giancoli, MPH, RD, California Prune Board Nutrition Advisor.

Prunes go well with a variety of tastes and textures. Add them to salads, trail mixes, smoothies, and savoury foods.

Prunes are a versatile food or snack because of their naturally sweet flavour.”

A major randomised controlled experiment in postmenopausal women found that eating 5-6 prunes per day protected against hip bone loss.

California Prunes are a low-calorie fruit high in vitamins and minerals that support bone health, including boron, potassium, copper, and vitamin K.
